Hike in the Val Verzasca.

During our time in Ticino, Kara and I spent a day on this hike in the Val Verzasca, which is home to the Verzasca dam, known in part for being home of the tallest bungee jump in the world. Yikes!

Kara and I started off in the small village of Sonogno and hiked down to Lavertezzo along the super-aqua Verzasca River. The hike was gorgeous, but, really, what hike in Switzerland isn't?

View down the valley from Sonogno.

River.

Part of our path.

Everything was so green!

Kara blazing a trail.

The path led us through several villages of stone huts like these.

Where we picnicked for lunch.

The rocks had a really beautiful texture.

The end of the hike was at the Lavertezzo bridge, which is famous for its double arches. While the bridge was certainly beautiful, the walk across seemed a little precarious, as the arches were steep and cobbled, and the sides were not that high. I also don't really like heights... The sun came out again, and Kara and I sat down by the river and dipped our feet in the refreshing (read: really cold!) water. I really can't get over how blue the river is!

On the bus ride back to the train, we rounded a bend in the road with a perfect view of the Verzaszca Dam just as someone was (bungee) jumping off- it was perfect timing! The entire bus gasped and seemed to hold their breath while the person was free-falling and until the bungee caught- it really is an incredible thing to see a person jump from that height (720 feet). You won't catch me doing that any time soon!
