What I am doing for my summer vacation.

I am having a summer vacation this year, and it will definitely be more of a summer vacation than I have had since I started grad school!

My parents are arriving from the US in less than 24 hours, and we will spend the next 2 weeks traveling around Switzerland. We are spending a week in Wallis, with the potential for a side-trip into Italy, and then we are nipping over to Austria for a little bit. We are going to spend most of our time in the mountains, seeing glaciers and hiking. We might even have to put our car on the train to get through the mountains! Who knew that you could put cars on trains? I can't wait to see my parents and to have some quality time in the mountains. Hopefully we'll even see the Matterhorn, which I tried once before to see and failed.

Once my parents head home, I will follow them to the US less than 3 days later to attend the American Chemical Society (ACS) conference in Denver, where I will be giving 2 talks. I'm quite excited for the conference. There's nothing like a proper nerd-fest, with around 15,000 chemists descending on one poor, hapless city. There is also quite a large contingent attending from my group, so I'm pretty sure we'll have a great time!

After the conference, I'm going to take a quick trip back to Minnesota and to spend Labor Day weekend with my puppy and family at our cabin on Lake Superior. I am looking forward to having time with my favorite people and animal in the world in possibly my favorite place in the world.

All in all, it will be almost a month before I'm properly back at work. I think I can deal with that.

Hello, summer vacation! How I've missed you!
