Good morning, Toolik!

I am not sleeping much due partially to the constant sun but mostly due to the cold. But there are worse things than getting up at 5 am to this view!

What happened in June.

These past few weeks have been really crazy, but filled with good things.

For starters, I left Switzerland for Minnesota, where I spent a week preparing for my thesis defense, shopping, and getting over jet lag. It was nice to spend time with family and friends that I hadn't seen in a while.

I had my thesis defense June 21, and officially became Dr. Sarah Page, leaving school for the first time in 21 years!

The two days after my defense were a whirlwind of wedding festivities for my cousin John and his (now) wife Kristine.

The morning after the wedding,  I caught the first flight to Boston and then rode a bus to Plymouth, New Hampshire for a conference on Environmental Water Sciences. It was a really great conference, full of science and catching up with people that I've seen at various conference over the years.

From that conference, I flew to Duluth, where I met my family. We spent the week around my birthday and the 4th of July on Lake Superior, which is still one of my favorite places on earth. It was really great to relax and unwind for a while, since I was pretty much running non-stop the past few months.

From the cabin, I had 24 hours in Minneapolis before jetting off to Alaska (flying in to Fairbanks) for three weeks of research at the Toolik Lake Field station in the arctic. But that's another story for a different post.

At the start of this trip, I had a hard time believing that I was going to be gone for 7 weeks, but I'm about halfway through, and time has really been flying! I'm excited for what is coming next!
