Visiting the Aletsch, Part I.

One of our first stops in the Wallis was the Aletschgletscher. It is the largest glacier in Europe, at 23 km long. In the deepest point, it is 1000 m thick! We gondola-ed ourselves up to Riederalp, and then took a little hike along the ridge overlooking the glacier. The weather clouded over for our hike, but the sun didn't hide for long! Once it cleared up, we could even see the Matterhorn in the distance down the valley.

Just another lovely day in the mountains!
