Visiting Prudhoe Bay.

On one of my other Sundays at Toolik, I drove up to Prudhoe Bay (about a 3 hour drive) with two of my labmates. We drove up to the end of the Dalton Highway, along the beautiful Sagavanirktok River for much of the way.

Caribou!

At the end of the Dalton Highway was Prudhoe Bay, which may just be the most ugly place I've been in my life. Really. We went on a tour of the "town", since this was the only way to actually access the Arctic Ocean.

After the tour, we piled back in to the car and made it back to camp in time to work in the lab for a few hours. I do like my job!

This pretty much sums up the highlights of my field work in Alaska. You can find all of my photos (and some extra) here. It was a really interesting and cool summer: a lot of hard work in a beautiful place with some great people. I'm already looking forward to going back next summer!
