Aufeis and Attigun Falls.

Now that I'm back in Zurich and finally over jet-lag, I'm going to try to get caught up on Alaska.

One Sunday while in Alaska, I went hiking with some friends to an aufeis near our field station, and then to Attigun Falls.

The aufeis was interesting, although, having seen tons of glaciers in Switzerland, I wasn't totally blown away. Of course, it was pretty late in the season, so the formation was much smaller than it would've been at the start of the summer.

It was definitely worth a visit! I loved the blue color of the ice.

After, we drove a little further down the road and hiked up a valley to Attigun Falls. Hiking in the tundra is definitely a challenge, since the ground is so sponge-y, and the tussocks are quite easy to trip over. The views were gorgeous, though.

I went hiking with three other colleagues from the lab I worked in, and we had a really nice time together. It's a lot different than hiking in Switzerland, which has more paths and signs than anywhere else, but nice to be really in the wilderness and nice to be doing something that wasn't work.

All in all, it was a pretty great Sunday in the middle of nowhere!
