Settling in at Toolik.

Now that lab work is taking off and I am actually sleeping at night (thanks to an extra sleeping bag that actually keeps me warm), I haven't had as much time to think about posting, or anything besides work, actually.

On an average day, I wake up at 7 am, have breakfast and am in the lab by 8 am. And then I am in the lab until 9 or 10 pm usually (with breaks for lunch and dinner). It's hard to know when to leave work, since it's light all the time! Here are some photos of the lab where I spend all my time:

My desk.

Sweet photoreactor.

Once I leave work, I read a little bit and go to bed, unless it's still women's hours at the sauna. Since we only get 2 showers per week, I've been going to the sauna to supplement my cleanliness... My life is SO exciting here. (I'm not complaining, though. It's quite a nice place to work here, with great people.) Thankfully, all of my methods are working now, so I should be able to get out into the field for sampling more. I can't wait!

I'm glad all your methods are working and you are able to sleep better now! It does sound like you're working very hard.

I looked back at the photos of the lake with the mountains in the background. The ground is so flat that the lake looks about two inches/feet deep. How deep is it really?
